Your final grade is made up of three assignments and a final exam. The weights are:
Assignment 1 (group): 16.67% (50/3)
Assignment 2 (group): 16.67% (50/3)
Assignment 3 (group): 16.67% (50/3)
Assignment 4 or Final exam (individual) 50%
Retake
You can do a retake for ONE the three group assignments, maximum grade is 6. No-show for assignment is a 0 grade.
You can do assignment 4 and/or the theory exam for the remaining 50% of your grade. The theory exam is the retake for the individual assignment. Highest grade counts. There is also a further retake for the theory exam. So you get three chances to score the individual part of your grade: ass4, regular exam, exam retake. If you are on holiday on July, that is your problem.
There is a retake for the final exam.
Passing the course
You pass the course if your final grade is >=5.5 (you may fail an assignment or the final exam, as long as the average is above 5.5).
Note that grades in the system are rounded to half a point. However, it is not possible to round to 5.5. (i.e., a final grade in [4.75,5.50) gets rounded to a 5.0, while a grade in [5.50,6.25) gets rounded to a 6.0).
Dutch grading system
Grading systems differ between countries, and this can cause a lot of confusion and disappointment. Grades in the Dutch grading system run from 1-10, with roughly the following interpretation:
10: Outstanding
9: Excellent
8: Good
7: More than sufficient
6: Sufficient
5: Insufficient
1-4: Highly insufficient
Therefore, an 8 is considered a good grade, A, (while a 7 is still decent, and a 6 sufficient). To get a 9, you typically need to have a really good report, with hardly a flaw, A+, while a 10 is possible if you really go above and beyond the assignment expectations (A++).
